INTERNATIONAL DESERVE FInal Finnish Seminar  in Sotkamo, FInland on Thursday 27th September 2007   -  How do we assure services in the village  - service centre a viable solution?

The seminar will include a study trip tp the village hall of Heinamaki, Heinis and to Tipasoja village, at Hiiden Torppa.

There area range of international speakers including:

Lena Nygren and Hakon Lindgren from the Rusksele Village shop and service centre, Vasterbotten, Sweden

Erik Linberg from the Ovre Bygen service centre, Vastedrebotten, Sweden

 22nd to 23rd May 2007

 

International Conference  - The final Scottish conference, whose main theme was Delivering Services in Remote and Rural Areas was held in Oban, Argyll, Scotland from 22 - 23  May 2007.  The conference presentations took place in the Corran Halls on the 23rd May 2007. 

The main speaker was John Sinclair, who works with young people using music as a means of communication. He was formerly a musician with rock groups Uriah Heep, The Cult and the Ozzie Osbourne Band.  Other speakers included Jessie MacNeil and Eric Calderwood who provided a presentation on Rural Shops and representatives from the NPP DESERVE project from Sweden, Scotland, FInland and Iceland  and the BOTTOM RULES project from Sweden and Norway, who discussed the progress of their projects and the impact of transferring service models between different Northern Periphery Programme areas.  Claire Matheson, form the NPP Joint Programme Executive  provided an update on the Northern Periphery Operational Programme 2007 - 2013.

On Tuesday 22nd May 2007 there were two seperate study trips.These featured visits to a number of local projects, the one travelled from Oban to Craignure on the local ferry and then through Mull and onto the historic Isle of Iona. In the afternoon there was  a visit to the local community hall at Craignure and presentations from members of the local Mull and Iona Community,Trust, prior to taking the ferry back to Oban.  The second group visited the internationally acclaimed Scottish Association for Marine Science.  In the evening the group were entertained by the internationally acclaimed Oban Gaelic Choir.

The event coincided with The Gathering and Civicus which is hosted by SCVO in the SECC in Glasgow and further information on this event can be found at the SCVO website - www.scvo.org.uk.

On Thursday 24th May 2007 there was a meeting in the Boisdale Room at SECC, Glasgow at which representatives of the DESERVE project were available - both to discuss the results of the current DESERVE project and to discuss possible partnerships with organisations in the new, enlarged Northern Periphery Project area, in the 2007 - 2013 programme.

NPP partners Steering Group and Study visits were held in Kajaani in Finland from the 28th to the 30th September 2006 and in Sweden from 10th to 12th February 2007

NPP DESERVE Presentation at the SECC  Glasgow Scotland
Representatives from the various partner countries were available at The Gathering held in the SECC in Glasgow on the 21st June 2006.   There was an opportunity for interested individuals to meet informally with the participants in the project and obtain general information on the implementation of the NPP DESERVE project and Northern Periphery Programme funding.  Partners from Scotland, Sweden, FInland and Iceland were present as well as a representative from the BOTTOM RULES project.  The second part of the meeting was a formal presentation on the results of the various partner’s projects to date, and a presentation on the management and administration of the Northern Periphery Programme in Scotland and its future within European Structural Funds from 2007 – 2013
In addition to the partner's presentations there was also a talk given  by two representatives from the Swedish village of Rusksele describing the ‘transfer’ of ideas from study trips to Scotland and how these trips have impacted on their rural village community.
The presentations were followed by an “Ask the Panel” session
